As soon as I saw the new collection from Scandinavian design company Muuto I fell in love with the beautiful Beam Lamp.
This versatile table lamp with a modern expression and intuitive user-friendliness was designed by Tom Chung, an industrial designer based in Toronto. With light shone from both ends of a cylinder shape, the user can choose between three different volumes of light and gradually alter the volume of light omitted in each end through the turn of a playful dial. What is great is that the lamp can be altered for any position with its rotating base and sleek body, whether it be as direct lighting or for an ambient glow in any home, offices, hotel room and educational areas.
“The idea for the Beam Lamp came while renovating my childhood home. I had made a shelf to use as divider between the hallway and living room and needed a lamp that could at once throw light out into the living room and down the hallway. The Beam Lamp mimics a single ray of light that travels through a round tube with its dimmer allowing the user to choose from three different volumes of light and alter the light omitted in both ends of the cylinder shape.” – Tom Chung
The Beam Lamp is designed in four colours: aluminum, black, umber and green. Place it on the desk, in a windowsill, on the floor or side table for a light that is modern in both its function and expression.
What do you think? I love its minimal yet interesting shape – functionality and beauty hand in hand.
